October 2023 News

October 27, 2023

Due to the likelihood of inclement weather this evening, including lightning, the football game at Denton Guyer has been moved to 6 PM to provide time for possible lightning delays. We appreciate everyone’s flexibility. Bring your umbrellas, raincoats, and galoshes and head to Denton to cheer on our Lions!

Today there was a brief medical hold-in-place at the end of 1st period. We were able to resume classes within 10 minutes.

Congratulations to our MHS volleyball team for making the playoffs! Details will not be finalized until after games are completed this evening. Please make plans to support our Lionettes on Tuesday and we will get the details posted as soon as possible.

When selecting costumes please remember to keep it fun, no gore, no weapons, and no make-up or masks that would hide identity.

October 20, 2023

Today we were honored with a personal visit from State Representative Fredrick Frazier who presented our campus with a Resolution from The State of Texas House of Representatives recognizing McKinney High School for the Schools Transforming Learning designation from N2 Learning. This was an official resolution by the 88th Legislature congratulating McKinney High School on its commitment to providing its students with “strong foundation on which to build” and as “a testament to the skill and professionalism of the faculty, staff, and administration.” We are humbled by this honor and will endeavor each day to be worthy of recognition.

Please support the Special Olympics at the Holiday Bazaar tomorrow!

The 15th annual McKinney ISD Holiday Bazaar, hosted by the MISD Special Olympics Team, will take place tomorrow, Saturday, October 21, at McKinney High School from 9 am – 4 pm. The Bazaar will include more than 130 vendors offering unique gift items, food, trendy clothing, arts and crafts, jewelry, decor and more. There will be free pictures with Santa starting at 12 and food offered from Texas Roadhouse, Dillas, and Coffee and Crumbs. Bazaar proceeds benefit MISD Special Olympics, special programs, and scholarships.

Just a reminder that breakfast is free for everyone this year. We encourage all students to arrive early and start the day with a good breakfast!

Progress reports will be uploaded Friday, October 27th. This 3 week IPR is a gain eligibility event. Grades will be posted in HAC by 5 PM on 11/1/2023.

Library:

Please remind your student to charge their laptop when the battery is running low. If the laptop loses power, the date and time will reset, and they won’t be able to use it until the Apple Office fixes it.

A helpful tip: Develop a habit of charging the laptop every night, just like you charge your phone.

If your student doesn’t have a charger, they can purchase a replacement charger for around $18 on Amazon. Additionally, your student can drop off their laptop at the library between classes to have the battery charged.

Nurse Angela:

Good news: More details regarding breakfast and lunch:

o All students in McKinney ISD are receiving FREE BREAKFAST, everyday, all year. If the student doesn’t need or want breakfast, the student can still “Pick 2” pre-packaged items and have a snack at no cost.

o All students categorized as Free & Reduced will receive FREE BREAKFAST AND FREE LUNCH, everyday, all year.
