November 2023 News

November 17, 2023

As we approach our Thanksgiving break (Mon. 11/20 – Friday, 11/24), we would like to express our gratitude for all the parental and community support we receive each and every day. Whether you’re a PTO parent working the Roar Store, a booster club parent providing meals, or a community member volunteering to mentor a student, it is obvious that our school benefits tremendously from the efforts of the adults in the community that give both time and money to enhance the lives of our MHS students and staff. We are grateful for your support and wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving holiday.

90% Attendance Law

In the state of Texas, students must attend class 90% of the time in order to receive credit for a course. High school students in MISD must earn 26 credits for graduation. Students that have not met the 90% requirement for this semester were notified this week via parent email. Students have the opportunity to make-up missed class time through our after school detention programs. Our goal for this school year is to have an overall 95% attendance rate. We firmly believe that the best learning outcomes happen when students regularly attend class.

November 10, 2023

We would like to wish all the veterans in our Lion families a happy Veterans Day. This morning our JROTC and our Harmony Choir honored the MHS staff members that served in the armed forces. We appreciate the service and sacrifices our veterans have made for our country.

Student drop-off/pick-up

Please remember, the ONLY place families may drop off students is at the very front of the building. All parents dropping off students should enter the drive on Wilson Creek where the police officer is directing traffic. Do not enter the student parking lot or the daycare/teacher parking lot off S. Graves Street. We know that traffic is heavy, so we encourage students to arrive as early as possible.

Campus communication and social media

We try to limit this weekly communication to the most pressing campus matters. However, there is a lot to keep up with and we want to keep you informed. For additional information, we encourage you to to follow us on Facebook (McKinney High School), Twitter (or is it X?) @MHSLions, and Instagram (mhslions). Our amazing Student Council is in charge of many of our student events such as dances and dress-up days. We encourage you to follow them on Tik Tok @mckinneystuco, and Instagram (mckinneystuco) to keep up with all the fun things they plan for our students. Most of our campus organizations also maintain social media accounts. We encourage you to follow as many as possible so you can see the events they have planned and the student successes they celebrate.
