January 2024 Updates

January 26, 2024

Dear Lion Families,

Beginning Monday, our new Athletic Coordinator, Nate Leonard, will begin his tenure at MHS. Not only does Coach Leonard bring a wealth of experience to the job, he is also a 2010 graduate of MHS and cares deeply for our community. We look forward to working alongside Coach Leonard as he sets a #GoldStandard for our athletic programs!

Speaking of gold standards, we want to congratulate Coach Sagehorm and our swim and dive teams for their outstanding performance at the district meets this week. Divers Kassie Kristufek and Gabe Turley and swimmers Bridget Watson, Sophie Phillips, Amira Mack, Jianna Athwal, Sofia Janah, Mia Peterson, Houston Fowler, Nick Blackwell, Connor McKeen, Luke Maunus, and Nathan Good, all advanced to the regional competition. A special shout out to Luke Maunus for setting a school record!

New alpha alignment

Due to the retirement of one of our APs, students in Alpha I-Mc to other house offices were reassigned. Here is a link to the new House Office Assignments. Mrs. Howard will continue to be the counselor for students in the I-Mc alpha.

Follow-up on events this week

On Wednesday evening a campus notification was sent to families in which we let you know that a student was found to be in possession of a firearm at MHS. On Thursday we had extra counselors and McKinney police officers present on campus. Some students were concerned about the extra police presence. We want to reassure you that the extra officers were here purely as a precautionary measure as we took time to thoroughly investigate the incident. We would like to thank the McKinney PD for their unwavering commitment to the safety of our MISD students.

Grades and eligibility

Monday marks the end of the three-week grading period. Grades should be posted in HAC by 5 pm on Wednesday, Jan. 31. This is an opportunity for students that have lost eligibility to regain it.

Academic Excellence Awards

On Feb. 1 we will celebrate the sophomores, juniors and seniors that achieved a 3.5 GPA in the prior year in the PAC. Invitations were mailed on Jan. 19. Students will receive a cord to wear at graduation in honor of their achievement.
