Tardy Policy

TARDY vs. ABSENT

A student will be marked TARDY if . . .

they are not physically across the threshold of the classroom door when the bell stops ringing/Bronco stops neighing.

Students are considered TARDY if entering the classroom . . .

within the first 0-9 minutes of class without an excused pass.

Student are considered ABSENT if entering the classroom . . .

10 or more minutes late to class.

The student will be marked absent due to the 90% attendance rule. (Classes are approximately 50 minutes long, and students can only miss 9 minutes of class to be in compliance with the 90% attendance rule.) On the 10th minute and each thereafter, the student is no longer tardy, but is now considered absent.

PROCEDURES FOR A 1st PERIOD TARDY

Students that arrive tardy to school during 1st period from 7:30 – 7:39 am will receive their tardy pass in the front office area (main entrance of Boyd).

Students that arrive to school during 1st period after 7:39 am will receive a pass from the Attendance Clerk in the front office area (main entrance of Boyd) so they can move on to 1st period.

PROCEDURES FOR A 2nd – 7th PERIOD TARDY

The student’s teacher will mark him/her Tardy (0-9 minutes) or Absent (10+ minutes) as they enter the classroom via Ecampus. Both the parents and student will receive an automated email the day of the tardy stating the Period and Date of tardy with a description of the discipline (if any is needed).

DISCIPLINE ISSUED FOR TARDIES

Students will receive 4 tardy warnings each semester before receiving a school consequence.

The 5th tardy will result in a Friday Night Live Detention (2:45 – 6:45 pm) or a Saturday School Detention (8:00 am – 12:00 pm) to be served in Room H-100.

Students will receive warnings again on tardy number 6 through 9 each semester.

The 10th tardy will result in another Friday Night Live Detention (2:45 – 6:45 pm) or a Saturday School Detention (8:00 am – 12:00 pm) to be served in Room H-100.

Students will receive warnings again on tardy number 11 through 14 each semester.

On the 15th tardy, and for each tardy thereafter, the student will be assigned to 1 day of In-school Suspension. If the tardies do not cease, consideration will be given to an alternate campus placement.
