About MHS Cosmetology

The MHS Cosmetology Licensing Program includes the foundational principles and technical application of the basics of the treatment of the hair, skin and nails in accordance with Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation’s requirements. Students will develop the skill set required to secure an entry level position in the field of Cosmetology which consists of being introduces to hair cutting, coloring, chemical texture services, waxing and hairstyling. In addition, students will also develop highly needed skills for success: team building skills, group participation, leadership, essential work ethics, safety and sanitation procedures, customer service and professional communication with co-workers as well as clientele. Students are expected to complete 500hrs during the first school year, meaning good attendance is a requirement.  The following year during Cosmetology II, students begin to master the topics and techniques introduced throughout Cosmetology I, actually putting all that has been learned into practice. After completion of the 1000+ clock hours of theory and laboratory work, students are eligible to sit for the state licensure examination with PSI testing centers. Being that the Cosmetology program is regulated by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations, students must successfully pass a written exam to receive graduation credit second semester of the senior year. They then must pass practical portion of the exam in order to receive their Texas State Cosmetology License and pay all applicable fees associated with receiving their actual license. This course requires a TRUE commitment from the student with extended attendance before and after school daily/weekly.

To apply, please complete the google form and prepare for a formal panel interview to be completed for selection and acceptance into the Cosmetology program.  Due to course requirements, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for interested students to transfer to MHS for convenience.   Please see your campus principal for transfer information, if applicable.
