Solar Eclipse Viewing

April 8, 2024 (All Day Event)

On April 8th, there will be a spectacular total eclipse of the sun. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event in our area.   We are so excited that this event is happening during a school day so that we can share the excitement - and SCIENCE - with our students. McKinney ISD has provided solar eclipse glasses for every student and staff member. All classes will go outside to view the eclipse.    We will be a closed campus from 1:30-2:00 on this day to give all staff the opportunity to view the eclipse. Parents will not be able to view the eclipse on campus. We understand if this opportunity is something you want to share with your child. If that is the case, you will need to pick them up from school by 1:15 before we start transitioning outside and closing the campus.  Details are included below:

  • Students will view the solar eclipse from 1:30 PM - 1:50 PM.
  • Each student and staff will receive the glasses to view the solar eclipse
  • We will have dedicated locations for each grade level
  • Wear red and green to enhance the experience
  • If you would like for your student OPT OUT please complete the form that will be sent home with your student on 3/25/24. You ONLY have to OPT OUT if you wish for your student not to participate.
  • The campus will be closed to any and all visitors entering the campus from 1:30pm-2:00pm this day.

  • This event has passed.
