Minshew Service Project

Monday, December 15, 2014

Minshew Elementary School worked with the McKinney Housing Authority to bring cheer to the Newsome Senior Community at the Merritt Community Center on Wednesday, December 10th.   As the holiday season is upon us the staff at Minshew wanted to celebrate a little different this year.  Instead of a traditional holiday work party they decided to reach a group of people that may be able to use some cheer this time of year. The Minshew staff teamed with the McKinney Housing Authority and hosted an event for our senior citizens at their community center. The event included singing, crafts, treats and games.  Several of these seniors will be displaced soon; as they tear down their homes to build much more improved facilities for them. The Minshew staff also collected warm blankets, mittens, socks, etc.

This one the first local school that he knew of to sponsor a community event for the Newsome group during the holidays.  -Alonzo Tutson, McKinney Housing Authority Resident Services Coordinator

I love that my son is able to see examples of adults giving back to the community. ~Christy

I was there early and they had given the Seniors a little letter for Santa to fill out. The gentleman I helped was so endearing and totally believed that it was going to mailed and his wishes filled. He kept calling Al, ” Mr. Conley Al.” He thought Al looked like he knew everything and was in charge. I was sad I had to leave so early. Great job to everyone planning and implementing!-Karen D.

This was the first school I have ever worked at to do a project like tonight!  It has to be one of my favorite experiences of my career.  Thanks go out to everyone who thought of and organized it! -Jeremy

I agree! I feel so blessed to be a part of a group that is so willing to give! Thanks to those orchestrated the whole thing. Because of you! all so many lives were touched.~Ebonee

Giving is the BEST part of the Christmas season!  Bingo & Prizes was a hit! But where is the Christmas Dinner? LOL.. That’s a question I got asked. LOVED IT!!
