2019-2020 Pre-K

McKinney ISD offers a full-day Pre-Kindergarten program at Lawson Early Childhood School. The program is free to qualifying students. The focus of the Pre-Kindergarten program is to develop oral language, prerequisite skills for emergent readers and early math concepts, and to build readiness skills for successful entry into kindergarten.

 

Pre-K Enrollment Qualifications:

Child must be 4 years old on or before September 1 of the target school year.

Students may qualify if:

  • Income falls within guidelines
  • Family is homeless
  • Child was or is in foster care in the state of Texas
  • Child is non-English or limited English
  • Parent is active military or receives military disability benefits
  • A guardian is eligible to receive the Star of Texas Award as a peace officer, firefighter, or emergency medical first responder

How to Apply for Pre-K–we will update here if a process is put in place for current year registration despite closures due to COVID-19.

Registration applications can be picked up in person at Lawson. For Pre-K specific questions, please contact our Pre-K registrar at 469-302-2400.

What to Bring: 

  • Child’s birth certificate
  • Child’s social security card
  • Proof of residency (this month’s water, natural gas, electric bill, lease/rent agreement or closing paperwork with signatures)
  • Child’s most up-to-date immunization record
  • Proof of income for the last 1 1/2 months (between 4 to 6 pay stubs) or if self employed W-2, 1040 and/or 1099 tax return for the previous year for every adult living in the household.

If applicable:

  • Withdrawal documentation from previous school district
  • Custody, guardianship, or foster care paperwork
